For Those Who Saw (or Wanted to See) Fifty Shades of Grey and were disappointed…

Odds are, you are one of many people who were anticipating the controversial love story Fifty Shades of Grey. Advance word coming out is that it’s actually pretty disappointing and not all that appealing.

Well, allow me to give a recommendation on a movie that has the themes of that same movie, but is an under looked gem of a romantic comedy:

Let me present to you: Secretary, a film about a mousey young lady who falls for her boss and they get into some kinky stuff throughout the film.

Spader plays Mr. Grey (Hey…wait a second), a very demanding and intense lawyer who hires new secretary Lee Holloway, played in probably her best performance by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who recently was released from a mental hospital. Their relationship starts out as an abusive employer/employee into a heightened sexualized sadomasachistic love affair and it kinda gets weirder than that.

Secretary made waves in 2002 when it was released independently in the Summer for not only it’s racy content, but just how effective the movie was showing a completely off-kilter relationship turning into a budding, romantic and lovable one.

It also did this without really being filled to the brim with sex and nudity. The film is smart and playful while being dark with its twisted sense of what love is. It hits poignant notes of how relationships are like and is probably one of the best romantic comedies to come out in the past 20 years.

So, if you are filled with the hype of Fifty Shades of Grey, you just might find your movie here. The movie is easy to find on most internet based movie streaming services, for $4 a rental. I highly recommend you check out this fun and very sexy film.
